Dive deep into the study and practice of yoga! Learn to teach yoga mindfully, safely and effectively. This program is both educational and transformational, bringing spiritual depth to your own practice and teaching.
The full 200-hour program will include:
  • The philosophical roots and branches of this living, evolving tradition
  • Mindful yoga – awakening and integrating body, heart and mind
  • The issues in our tissues – fascia and structural integration in asana
  • Pranayama – in-depth study and practice of working with the breath
  • Internal alignment – the subtle body and the energetics of asana
  • Meditation – cultivating presence in our practice and in our lives
  • Ayurveda – yoga’s sister science for health and healing
  • The Art and Skill of teaching – 7 day immersion retreat in West Marin
Foundations
  • The history and philosophy of yoga, foundational texts and teachings
  • Yoga as a mind/body/heart practice of personal transformation and path of awakening within our contemporary lives
  • Cultivating mindfulness and the basic principles of mindfulness
  • In-depth study of yoga asanas, alignment, sequencing and structure
  • Dynamic and static/yin methods of practicing asana
  • Principles of breath and movement
  • Embodied Anatomy, the function of asanas, therapeutic applications
The Subtle Body
  • Yogic models of psychology and energy; prana, chakras, nadis, bandhas, vayus and koshas
  • Prana and citta; subtle energy and the mind/heart connection
  • Pranayama and how to use the breath in asana practice to create a specific or desired effect
The Art of Teaching
  • The Art of Teaching
  • Adapting the practice to individuals and groups in a creative and skillful way
  • Observing and seeing bodies
  • The art and ethics of touch
  • The dynamics of the student-teacher relationship
  • Creating sacred space, the seat of the teacher
  • Communicating so that students understand technique and also feel personally empowered
  • How to skillfully weave mindfulness into your teaching

Over the course of the training we will explore how we keep this practice alive through creativity and personal inspiration both as practitioners and teachers. We will take an experiential approach, combining the scientific techniques and practices of yoga with the art of responding to the subtleties of the moment with a clear mind and open heart.

Cancellation Policy


All cancellations must be made in writing to THE YOGA GARDEN. We charge a $150 cancellation fee per person for cancellations prior to 30 days before start of training. No refunds for cancellations within 30 days of the program. No refunds will be made for failure to attend or failure to complete the program. No transfers. All refunds will be processed within 2 weeks following the start of the program.
